Vantage Point Video Since 2004

Vantage Point Video became a business in 2004 when Senan O’Connor registered the name after a season spent making videos for his friends in the Irish Hillcimb and Sprint Championship in 2003. He quit his job in a warehouse in Dublin and moved to Castletownbere in West Cork where his Dad had been living for over a decade. He rented a small office in the town and set up an editing studio and started filming rallies as well, spending nearly every weekend on the road. That winter he attended a business course from the Local Enterprise Office and he expanded his operation over the next few years, beginning to produce compilation DVD’s of entire seasons of rally action.

By 2010 the recession had significantly curbed this business and it was no longer economical to travel to so many events in the year. He stopped travelling to rallies and started working as a production manager for a local business making eco-friendly cleaning products. He kept the name Vantage Point Video going on social media and continued covering the Irish Hillclimb and Sprint Championship. When the business he was working for relocated out of the area, Senan decided not to go with it. He had observed huge growth in the publication of video on social media and with the support of the enterprise board once again. Vantage Point Video was formally restarted in 2015 with a view to supplementing his motorsport coverage with work for local businesses, community groups and vloggers.

With his hard won experience from the first iteration of Vantage Point Video and lessons learned working for somebody elses start up, this has been a much more successful endeavour. He was soon able to specialise in motoring related video and support local projects when they came to him. One of these was producing a weekly vlog for a client and from this Senan saw he had some unique resources to draw on and his regular garage videos began in 2017 leading to the extraordinary viewership of his Opel Kadett D/Astra Mk1 Time-lapse reaching 21 million views on facebook and leading to support for his projects from Micksgarage.com and E Fox Engineers Ltd. When he’s not in the garage he is usually on the road producing the official video reports for the Irish Hillclimb and Sprint Championship, Formula BOSS Ireland or in his studio archiving 30 years of past television programmes for Motorsport Ireland.
